APPLICATION

Type C3 is a screened railway signalling tail cable used for TPWS equipment connections where the specified circuit requires this construction. Two 2.5 mm² class 5 tinned copper cores have GP4 EPR insulation. An aluminium tape screen and flexible tinned copper drain wire sit beneath the RS2 HDPCP sheath. The screen termination and cable routing form part of the complete signalling-system design.

KEY FEATURES

  • Two insulated 2.5 mm² class 5 conductors in the listed 1 × 2 × 2.5 arrangement.

  • Aluminium tape screen with a separate tinned copper drain wire.

  • HDPCP sheath and a 15–20 mm listed overall-diameter range.

SELECTION NOTES

Match the cable to the TPWS equipment specification and termination drawing. Provide continuity and bonding of the screen as required by that design, keeping the drain wire distinct from the signal cores. Select glands for the listed diameter range and allow the specified bend radius. Evaluate interference performance as part of the installed circuit.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How many signal cores are listed?

The cable has two insulated 2.5 mm² signal cores, with a separate drain wire.

What forms the screen?

An aluminium tape screen surrounds the insulated core assembly, with a tinned copper drain wire for the specified termination arrangement.

Is C3 the same as C2?

Both use class 5 tinned copper, EPR insulation and HDPCP sheath. C3 adds the screen and drain-wire construction for its specified application.

Can the drain wire be treated as an extra signal core?

It belongs to the screening arrangement. Use it according to the equipment's screen and bonding drawing.

What does a TPWS cable enquiry need?

State Type C3, required lengths, equipment interface, termination details and applicable railway acceptance requirements.
